Individuals with diabetes are required to attend a review at least twice a year to assess the results of various tests and to see how new treatment schedules have affected their condition.

 

This may sound very simple and straightforward but each review cycle may involve several appointments for blood samples, nurse clinics and discussions with a GP or specialist. Point of Care Testing in the Community - HbA1c Testing Pilot with Heart of Birmingham PCT

During November and December 2008 a pilot study was conducted with Heart of Birmingham PCT to assess the feasibility and value of performing HbA1c testing within the community. The study involved the assessment of two HbA1c analysers: the Axis-Shield Afinion instrument and the Siemens DCA Vantage.
